Word is that whatever you do on the first day of the year, you’ll be doing plenty of that activity for the rest of the year, so not to tempt fate and insure that I’ll be doing lots of hiking in 2019, I headed out to the Foothillls Trail a couple of miles down the road and decided to stretch my legs on the 3 mile spur into the Eastatoe Gorge and down to the Narrows.
The trail follows the ridge along an old forest road then drops sharply down to Eastatoe Creek. The ridge walk is easy enough though a few blow downs from the recent snow and abundant rainfall required some acrobatics.
As I headed into the gorge, I could hear the roar of Eastatoe Creek as it was forced through the chasm that forms the Narrows! It’s always an impressive sight but because of recent record breaking rainfall was even more so today. The creek runs through my property a couple of miles upstream but really picks up steam here as it heads down the mountain.

The temperatures were in the upper 50’s today making it pleasant to take in the beauty of this spot at the adjacent overlook and have a nice break. Before heading back I went to find the back-country campsites that have reopened after being closed for several years. They were about a 1/4 mile upstream on a nice flat knoll above the creek.

It was a quick 3 miles backtracking to the parking area and home for a New Years good luck meal of greens and Hoppin’ John! Great hike!
Beautiful photos and great description. Happy New Year
I would love to see your hikes. Happy new year to you all. Chris xx
